Honors College Doubles in Size, Drops the Separate Application
Any admitted student who meets the threshold is now invited automatically; honors sections expand from 40 to 90 per year.
The Honors College has eliminated its separate application. Beginning with fall 2026 admissions, every admitted first-year student whose record meets a published threshold receives an automatic invitation, and any enrolled student can petition to join after one strong semester.
The change roughly doubles honors enrollment, from about 40 to 90 students per entering class. The college is adding honors sections of high-demand first- and second-year courses rather than creating a parallel curriculum, and it is expanding its undergraduate-research stipend pool to match.

Honors students complete a thesis or applied project, take a set number of honors-designated courses, and get priority registration. The residential honors floor in Red Cedar Hall remains, with more beds added.
