Veteran Resource Center Moves to a Larger Space With a Dedicated Benefits Counselor
The center now has a lounge, a quiet study room, and a full-time staff member who handles GI Bill certification in-house.
The Veteran Resource Center has moved into a larger, ground-floor space in the student union with a lounge, a quiet study room, a small kitchen, and — the change students asked for most — a full-time benefits counselor who handles GI Bill enrollment certification directly, rather than routing it through the registrar’s general queue.
About 400 students at Porter use education benefits connected to military service. The center also coordinates priority registration, a peer-mentoring program pairing new student veterans with experienced ones, and a standing connection to the county veterans service office.
