Why this disclosure exists
Federal rules require an institution to tell current and prospective students, for every program that could lead to a professional license or certification, whether the program's curriculum meets the educational prerequisites for licensure in the state where the student is located. A program can meet the requirements in one state and not another, and licensure also involves exams, background checks, and supervised hours that a degree alone does not satisfy.
Programs this applies to
At Porter, the programs that lead toward a license or a standardized certification include Nursing, Elementary Education, Special Education, Technology & Engineering Education, the education-leadership programs, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Dietetics, and Rehabilitation Services. Programs such as engineering, computing, and business prepare students for certifications (the FE/PE, CompTIA and security certifications, project-management and quality credentials) that are national rather than state-by-state and have no state determination.
State-by-state determinations
For each licensure program, the university publishes one of three determinations for every state and territory: meets requirements, does not meet requirements, or a determination has not been made. The full, current tables are maintained by each program and the office of the registrar; they change as state boards revise their rules.

If you move
If you are in a licensure program and relocate to another state during the program, tell your program advisor — the determination for your new state may differ, and in a few cases a program cannot be delivered to a student in a particular state at all. The advisor will help you find a path, which may include a placement or additional coursework in the new state.
