A regional company brings a concept — a fixture, a packaging redesign, a sensor housing — and a faculty-supervised student team designs, builds and tests a working prototype using the same equipment students already train on.
Who owns what comes out of it
Sponsors typically retain rights to the resulting design under a standard agreement negotiated before the project starts; students keep the experience and, often, a portfolio piece with the sponsor's permission to show it.
