The story

BAYPORT — Senior kicker Brody Felland made a 38-yard field goal with four seconds remaining, and UW–Porter Falls beat Bayport State 17–14 on Saturday afternoon at Lighthouse Field. The Ironclads improve to 3–1 overall and 1–1 in the WCAC; the Mariners fall to 2–2 and 1–1.

Porter took over at its own 31 with 1:22 left and one timeout. Junior quarterback Tyler Haakenson completed four of five passes on the drive, the longest a 19-yard out to junior Isaiah Lindqvist on third-and-6, and the Ironclads ran the clock to four seconds before sending Felland out. The kick was never in doubt. Felland, a walk-on from Cedar Bluff who did not miss inside 40 yards last season, is now 4-for-4 on field goals this year.

Porter's defense set it up. Bayport State led 14–7 entering the fourth quarter, but senior linebacker Owen Krause intercepted a pass at the Porter 22 with 11:30 to play, and the Ironclads tied it eight minutes later on Haakenson's 12-yard touchdown pass to Lindqvist. Sophomore Jamal Petit carried 24 times for 118 yards and Porter's first-quarter touchdown.

What they said

“Brody kicks in a parking lot behind the Fieldhouse at 6 a.m. because the turf is booked. Nobody on our sideline was nervous. I was a little nervous.”

— Ray Gutzmer, head coach

“Thirty-eight is a normal kick. I just tried to make it boring.”

— Brody Felland, senior kicker

Game notes

  • Felland's winner was the first walk-off field goal for Porter since 2017, also on the road.
  • Porter held Bayport State to 88 rushing yards, the Mariners' lowest total in a conference game since 2021.
  • Krause's interception was his third in four games and the eighth of his career.
  • About 300 Porter fans made the trip; the band's drumline came on a separate van, which the athletic department would like noted was approved in advance.

Up next

Porter is off on September 26, then hosts Granite Ridge on October 3 at Millwright Stadium. The Forge Bowl against Chippewa Valley State is October 17. Season results are on the fall 2026 schedule and the football page.
