The recovery community
The collegiate recovery program is a peer community for students in recovery from substance use or other addictive behaviors, or seeking it. It runs regular meetings, sober social events, one-on-one peer support, and a dedicated space to study and connect. It is confidential — participation is not on your record and not shared.
Recovery housing
A substance-free residential option, beyond the standard alcohol- and drug-free policy that already applies to first-year halls, where residents commit to a recovery-supportive living agreement. Request it through the housing application or by contacting the program directly.
Support to get into recovery
You do not have to be in established recovery to use the program. The counseling center does assessment and brief intervention, connects students with community treatment when more is needed, and the recovery program welcomes students who are questioning their use or early in a change. Crisis support and the 24-hour line at (715) 555–0117 are there for the hard moments.
Academic and financial flexibility
If treatment or a recovery need requires time away, a medical or personal leave of absence, an incomplete, or a reduced load can be arranged — talk to a success coach or the Dean of Students. Some recovery scholarships exist; the program can point you to them.
A social life without drinking
A lot of campus social life does not revolve around alcohol and much of it is genuinely sober-friendly: intramurals and club sports, the outdoor program, maker and competition teams, arts events, late-night programming, and most student organizations. The recovery community also runs its own events, and plenty of students who are not in recovery come to those.
For friends and allies
If you are worried about a friend's use, the "when a friend is struggling" guidance applies — check in directly, connect them to the counseling center or the recovery program, and do not carry it alone. Bystander and harm-reduction training is available, and knowing where naloxone is on campus and how to use it is worth an hour.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
