Home / Registration & records

Your registration appointment

Each term you are assigned an enrollment appointment — a date and time when your registration opens — based on earned credits. Graduate students and seniors go first, then juniors, sophomores, and first-year students; approved priority groups (honors, athletes, students with certain accommodations, veterans) register early within their tier. Your appointment and any holds show in MyPorter. Clear every hold (advising, financial, immunization, library) at least two weeks before your appointment — a hold that is not cleared by your time costs you your place in line for popular sections even if you clear it an hour later.

Building the schedule

Use the MyPorter planner to stack possible sections, check for time conflicts, and confirm you meet each prerequisite before your appointment opens; then registration itself is fast. If a section is full, add yourself to its electronic waitlist (position is by time added) and, for a course you need to graduate, contact the department. A registration override — a permission number for a full section, a prerequisite the system cannot see, a slight time conflict both instructors approve — comes from the department or instructor and still requires you to register yourself before the add deadline.

Add, drop, and withdrawal

Add or drop freely during roughly the first week: a course dropped in that window never appears on your transcript. From then until about week 9–10, leaving a course is a withdrawal and posts a "W" (no GPA effect, but several read poorly and there is usually no refund). After that deadline you receive the grade you earn; a late withdrawal needs a documented non-academic emergency. Talk to Financial Aid before any change that drops you below 12 credits — it can reduce aid, change your bill, and affect housing, insurance, athletic eligibility, or visa status.

Transcripts, grades, and verification

Unofficial transcripts and current grades are in MyPorter. Order official electronic or mailed transcripts through the Registrar (a small fee; a hold blocks release). Free enrollment-verification letters — for insurance, loans, scholarships, employers — are available on demand, as is degree verification after you graduate. Grade changes, incomplete-grade contracts, name and gender-marker updates, and FERPA privacy settings (including who, if anyone, you authorize to discuss your record) are all handled here.
