About this scholarship
The Global Gateway Scholarship is a study-abroad scholarship worth up to $1,500 (one-time), awarded to help offset the added cost of a specific term abroad, based on the application essay and an approved study-abroad plan.
This is a one-time award; it is not renewed automatically.
Who is eligible
This award is open to students with an approved semester or summer study-abroad plan. Meeting the description here does not guarantee an award — funding is limited and awards are made from among eligible applicants each cycle.
How to apply
Apply through the Global Education Office once your study-abroad program is approved; the required essay explains how the program fits your academic plan.
Deadline: Eight weeks before the program departs. Save your essay draft outside MyPorter before you submit, in case you want to reuse or adapt it for another scholarship with a similar prompt.
Renewal
This is a one-time award tied to a single term abroad; it is not renewable, though a student can apply again for a different term if eligible.
Common questions
Can I apply for this and other scholarships at the same time? Yes. Most Porter scholarships can be combined with each other and with need-based aid, though total gift aid cannot exceed your cost of attendance; the financial-aid office adjusts automatically if a combination goes over.
What happens if my GPA drops below the renewal threshold for one term? This award is one-time, so renewal does not apply.
Does this scholarship reduce my loan eligibility? It reduces need-based aid only if, combined with everything else, it would put your total aid over your cost of attendance; ask financial aid to check your specific package.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. The Global Gateway Scholarship, its donor, amount, and every deadline on this page are invented; nothing here is a scholarship you can actually apply for.
