About Supply Chain Management
Sourcing, moving, and delivering goods reliably and affordably. Courses carry the SCM subject code and are offered through the College of Management. Numbers below 300 are introductory, 300–499 advanced undergraduate, and 500 and above graduate. Prerequisites are enforced at registration.
How the sequence works
Of the 9 SCM courses listed, 3 are introductory (numbers under 300), 2 are advanced undergraduate (300–499). 0 courses have no prerequisite and are a reasonable first step. Later courses assume the earlier ones, so read prerequisites before you plan a term — they are enforced at registration and an override from the Supply Chain Management department is the only way around them.
SCM 2500 — Introduction to Supply Chain 3 cr
The end-to-end chain from supplier to customer, the trade-offs among cost, speed, and service, and the bullwhip effect.
Prerequisite: BUS 1000.
SCM 3100 — Procurement and Sourcing 3 cr
Supplier selection, negotiation, contracts, total cost of ownership, and managing supplier risk.
Prerequisite: SCM 2500.
SCM 3200 — Logistics and Transportation 3 cr
Modes and carriers, network design, warehousing, and the economics of moving freight.
Prerequisite: SCM 2500.
SCM 3300 — Inventory and Demand Planning 3 cr
Forecasting, safety stock, replenishment policies, and balancing service level against carrying cost.
Prerequisite: MATH 1600.
SCM 3400 — Lean and Process Improvement 3 cr
Value-stream mapping, waste, flow, pull, and running a kaizen event.
Prerequisite: SCM 2500.
SCM 3500 — Global Supply Chain 3 cr
Trade, incoterms, customs, currency and political risk, and building resilience.
Prerequisite: SCM 3100.
SCM 3700 — Supply Chain Analytics 3 cr
Optimization, simulation, and dashboards applied to network, inventory, and routing problems.
Prerequisite: SCM 3300.
SCM 4100 — Sustainable Operations 3 cr
Emissions, circular flows, reverse logistics, and measuring a chain's footprint.
Prerequisite: SCM 2500.
SCM 4900 — Supply Chain Capstone 3 cr
A team analyzes and improves a real supply-chain problem for a sponsor against cost and service targets.
Prerequisite: senior standing.
