Why it exists
Most serious incidents on university trips involve a tired student driving a heavy, unfamiliar vehicle at night. Certification covers a record check, a defensive-driving module, and van-specific handling; the two-driver rule for long trips and the ban on the highest-rollover-risk vans are the two policies that matter most.
For club and team travel
The trip's student travel registration has to list certified drivers before the vehicle is released. Booking the course a couple of weeks before a season starts avoids the pre-trip scramble.
In and around Porter Falls
Porter Campus Safety operates from the ground level of Millwright Hall around the clock during the semester and coordinates with the Porter Falls Police and Fire departments, whose stations are both within a mile of campus. For a real emergency the number is 911.
