Alumni Spotlight

James Whitfield

B.S. '02, Business Administration · CEO, a regional credit union

James Whitfield worked his way up through three regional financial institutions after graduating from the College of Business in 2002, becoming CEO of a member-owned credit union in 2018. He credits the program's required co-op term with his first break: a teller job that became a career.

Whitfield now serves on the College of Business's advisory board and funds a need-based scholarship for first-generation business students.

Advice for current students

“Say yes to the unglamorous assignment. The people who move fastest early on are usually the ones who did not wait to be handed the interesting work.” — James Whitfield

Stay connected

James Whitfield is one of several hundred graduates listed in the alumni mentor network, where current students can request a short conversation with an alum working in their field.
