Campus Master Plan
A rolling ten-year plan for what gets built, renovated, or torn down next, and how the campus stays walkable while it happens.
What a master plan is for
The master plan is not a construction schedule with fixed dates; it is a shared, regularly updated map of priorities — which buildings need replacing or renovating first, where new construction fits without losing green space, and how growth in one program (a new lab wing) is weighed against deferred maintenance somewhere else (an aging residence hall roof).
Current priorities
The three projects furthest along are a renovation of Kessler Hall’s HVAC and accessibility systems, a planned addition to the Halvorsen Library for a expanded 24-hour study zone, and site preparation for the advanced manufacturing and robotics lab funded by the 2026 federal workforce-development grant (see the grant announcement).
Sustainability targets
New construction and major renovations are built to a minimum LEED Silver standard, and the plan sets a campus-wide target of cutting building energy use per square foot by 20 percent over the plan’s ten-year horizon — tracked alongside the sustainability office’s other goals, including the solar array behind the Fieldhouse.
How the campus community gives input
A public open house happens each fall when the plan is updated, and a standing planning-and-space committee with student, faculty and staff representation reviews proposals before they reach the chancellor’s cabinet. Comments on the current draft go to planning@uwporterfalls.edu.
