Between intramural and varsity
Club sports — rugby, ultimate, climbing, cycling, esports, martial arts, rowing on the Porter River — are led by student officers with an advisor, not a paid coaching staff. Tryouts vary: some cut, most don't. Expect a season-long commitment and a share of travel costs.
Starting one
If the sport you want isn't here, the Rec Sports office will walk a group through chartering a new club: a minimum roster, an advisor, a safety plan, and a season budget. New clubs get a probationary year before full funding eligibility.
In and around Porter Falls
The Ironclads compete in NCAA Division III as members of the Wesconsin Collegiate Athletic Conference, and home events are at the Ironhouse Athletic Center and the riverside fields off North Campus. Millrace Week in October is still built around the homecoming football game.
The practical details
What they are: Registered student orgs that practice regularly and compete against other colleges. Commitment: Real — multiple practices a week, weekend travel, dues. Funding: A base allocation from student fees plus fundraising and dues. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Ironclad Athletics (Ironhouse Athletic Center). Call (715) 555–0195 or email athletics@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
