How it works
Every admitted student receives a free copy of the year's chosen book over the summer; small-group discussions happen during orientation week, and several fall courses build a short unit around it regardless of major.
Choosing the book
A committee of faculty, librarians and students selects a recent, discussion-friendly title each spring, favoring books that connect to Porter's applied, hands-on identity without being assigned reading in disguise.
In and around Porter Falls
Student life at Porter is organised out of Founders Union, the building students call the campus living room. The Dean of Students Office is on the second floor.
The practical details
This year's pick: Announced each spring for the following fall. Format: A free copy mailed to every admitted student. Culminates in: A campus visit and talk by the author during Millrace Week. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
