Find your exam time
Every exam block is two hours long. Find the day and time of your class’s first weekly meeting in the grid. Classes that meet at the same time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday are listed as MWF, and classes that meet on Tuesday and Thursday are listed as TTh. A MW class follows the MWF row for its start time.
| Exam block | Mon, Dec 14 | Tue, Dec 15 | Wed, Dec 16 | Thu, Dec 17 | Fri, Dec 18 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7:45–9:45 a.m. | MWF 8:00 | TTh 8:00 | MWF 9:05 | TTh 2:00 | MWF 2:30 |
| 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. | TTh 9:30 | MWF 10:10 | TTh 11:00 | MWF 11:15 | MWF 3:35 |
| 1:00–3:00 p.m. | MWF 12:20 | TTh 12:30 | MWF 1:25 | TTh 3:30 | Conflict make-ups |
| 3:30–5:30 p.m. | Common exams A | Common exams B | Common exams C | Common exams D | Conflict make-ups |
| 6:30–8:30 p.m. | Evening classes (starting 5 p.m. or later) take their exam on their usual meeting night during finals week, at the usual start time. | ||||
Labs, studios and courses with no final exam do not use a block. Online asynchronous courses set a 48-hour exam window inside finals week. The room is your usual classroom unless your instructor posts a different one in PorterLearn by December 4.
Common final exams
Multi-section courses give one exam at one time, so every section sits the same test. A common exam takes priority over a regular block. If you have a conflict with one, the other course moves.
| Block | Courses | Rooms |
|---|---|---|
| A: Mon, Dec 14, 3:30 | MATH 1200, MATH 2400 | Ironclad Fieldhouse auxiliary gym; Commerce Hall 101 |
| B: Tue, Dec 15, 3:30 | CHEM 1110, PHYS 2010, MATH 1600 | Fieldhouse auxiliary gym; Jarvis Technology Center 110 |
| C: Wed, Dec 16, 3:30 | ME 2100 Statics, ACCT 2100 | Founders Hall 120; Commerce Hall 101 |
| D: Thu, Dec 17, 3:30 | ECON 2010, PSYC 1000, BIOL 1010 | Fieldhouse auxiliary gym; Health Sciences Center 150 |
Statics is in Founders Hall 120 because Provost Halvorsen asked for it. He has proctored his own Statics final in that room every December he has taught the course, and he does not plan to stop in his last month as provost.
Conflicts and too many exams in one day
The university resolves two situations. The first is a direct conflict, where two exams fall in the same block. The second is an overload, where you have three or more exams on one calendar day. Two exams on the same day with a gap between them is not a conflict. The rules are in the final exam conflict policy.
- File the conflict form in MyPorter by 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 30. Thanksgiving recess is the week before, so file before you leave.
- The Registrar applies the rule. A common exam stays put. Otherwise the higher-numbered course moves, unless the Registrar designates a different section.
- The make-up goes into a Friday, December 18 conflict block, and both instructors and you are notified by December 4.
Students with approved testing accommodations book each final through the Testing Center at least 48 hours ahead, using accommodated exam scheduling. Finals-week slots fill faster than any other week, so book in November.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This exam grid, the common exams, the rooms and every deadline are invented for a fictional university. Check your own institution’s schedule before you skip a real final.
