Hours for October 12–18
This is the week the campus calendar gets crowded. Millrace Week runs Sunday, October 11 through Saturday, October 17, and fall break falls on Thursday and Friday, October 15–16: no classes meet, but university offices are open their regular hours. Several venues shorten their break-day hours; others stay open late for the Foundry pour, the Ring of Iron and the Forge Bowl. Times are a.m./p.m.; “midnight” means the end of that day.

What is different this week
- Thursday night. Engineering Express opens only for the Foundry pour, selling cider and coffee from the Founders Hall east lobby. The Forge Makerspace closes at 4 p.m. so its student mentors can staff the rail. Details are in the Foundry pour preview.
- Saturday. The Forge serves brunch early so people can get to the 1 p.m. kickoff, and stops serving dinner at 7 p.m. ahead of the 7:30 fireworks. Founders Drive is closed to cars from 9:30 a.m. to noon for the homecoming parade.
- The campus store stays open late on Thursday and Friday for alumni. Heritage trivets go on sale Friday at 8 a.m., limit two per person.
- Admissions keeps its Millrace Week Saturday hours, 9 a.m. to noon, with student-led tours leaving the Depot at 9:30 and 10:30.
- Porter Card office is closed on the weekend. If you lose your card, freeze it in the MyPorter app. Hall desks can issue a temporary access card. See the Porter Card.
Buildings and services not in the table
Founders Union is open 7 a.m. to midnight, and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday of Millrace Week. Academic buildings lock at 10 p.m. Card access after that follows your trainings and enrollment, as described on the after-hours building access page. Campus Safety in Millwright Hall is staffed 24 hours a day at (715) 555–0191. The Porter Loop runs its usual 12-minute headways Monday to Wednesday, a break-day schedule (every 20 minutes) on Thursday and Friday, and an 8-minute game-day loop with a stadium stop from 10 a.m. Saturday. Buses are live on the shuttle tracker.
Break and holiday hours ahead
| Period | What changes |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving recess, Wed Nov 25 – Sun Nov 29 | University offices close Thursday and Friday, Nov 26–27. The Forge closes after lunch Wednesday and reopens for Sunday dinner. Ironworks and North Market run 11 a.m.–7 p.m. except Thursday, when both are closed. The library is open 7:30–5 Wednesday, closed Thursday, 10–5 Friday and Saturday, and noon–midnight Sunday. |
| Finals week, Dec 14–18 | Halvorsen Library is open 24 hours from noon Sunday, Dec 13, until 6 p.m. Friday, Dec 18. A Porter Card is required after midnight. See the final exam schedule. |
| Commencement, Sat Dec 19 | The Forge serves a graduates’ brunch from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fall dining service ends after that. |
| Winter closure, Dec 24 – Jan 1 | Offices, the library, dining and the rec center are closed. Campus Safety and break housing stay open. See dining during breaks. |
| Winter Term, Jan 4–22 | Reduced hours. Ironworks is the only dining location open, and the library runs 8 a.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays. |
Administrative closures follow the staff holiday calendar. Class days follow the academic calendar. The two calendars do not always agree.
Where these hours come from
University Communications updates this page every Friday afternoon from the hours each unit sends in. The dining app, the library website and the PorterRec app show live hours, and they win if they disagree with this page, for example when a pipe bursts on a Tuesday. If you find an hour that is wrong, email the Founders Union information desk and someone will fix it the same day. The desk has caught the same Sunday typo three weeks running.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. These hours, venues, break schedules and the shuttle timetable are invented for a fictional campus. No library will be open at midnight because of this page, and no trivet is for sale.
