Regional Plastics Manufacturer Donates Injection Molding Line to Plastics Engineering Program
The equipment gift adds a second production-scale injection molding line to the program's pilot processing floor, doubling student lab capacity.
A regional plastics manufacturer has donated a full production-scale injection molding line to the Plastics Engineering program, along with a matched set of interchangeable mold tooling for student projects. The gift doubles the number of students who can run a live molding process at once on the program's pilot processing floor.
Plastics Engineering is one of a handful of dedicated plastics engineering degrees in the country, and the program's pilot floor is a recruiting draw in its own right — students are setting up and troubleshooting real injection, extrusion and blow-molding equipment well before graduation rather than only modeling it on a screen.
The new line will be integrated into Plastics Processing I starting next semester, and will also be available for sponsored industry capstone projects, mirroring the arrangement that already exists for the Packaging Technology program's materials lab.
