How this differs from Accessibility Services
Accessibility Services sets up and manages your individual accommodations — extended time, alternative formats, housing adjustments, and the rest. The ADA & Section 504 Coordinator is a separate, university-wide compliance role required under federal law: the person responsible for the institution's overall obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the contact when a disagreement about disability access needs to go above the department or office that first handled it.
What the Coordinator handles
Physical and digital access barriers not tied to one student's accommodation plan (a building, a walkway, a piece of software, an event venue); disputes over whether an approved accommodation was actually provided; questions about accessibility in employment, public events, or facilities used by visitors, not just enrolled students; and coordinating the university's response when a barrier affects more than one person or department at once. Filing a grievance
A grievance can be filed in writing, by email, or in an accessible format on request, and does not require you to have gone through Accessibility Services first if the complaint is about a facility, an event, or a department rather than your personal accommodation plan. The Coordinator acknowledges a grievance within a set number of business days, investigates, and issues a written outcome; either party can request a review of that outcome once. Filing a grievance is protected activity — retaliation for filing one is itself a violation the Coordinator will act on.
Outside the university
You are never required to use the campus grievance process before contacting an outside agency, and doing one does not use up your right to do the other. A complaint can also be filed with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, or, for employment-related disability discrimination, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The Coordinator's office can point you to both.
