How it works
Trained student mechanics help any community member repair their own bike rather than doing the repair for them — the point is teaching basic maintenance, not running a for-profit shop. Parts are sold at cost.
Borrowing tools
A full wall of repair tools can be checked out with a Porter Card for a same-day repair done elsewhere on campus, no purchase or shop visit required.
In and around Porter Falls
Porter Falls sits on the Porter River, and the university's sustainability commitments are mostly about water and heat: the Millrace restoration, rain gardens, and fourteen buildings surviving a Wesconsin winter as efficiently as possible.
The practical details
Location: North Campus, next to the bike-share station. Cost: Parts at cost; labor is free if you learn to do it yourself. Hours: Staffed afternoons during the semester. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Office of Sustainability (Founders Union, Room 015). Call (715) 555–0240 or email sustainability@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
