What is tracked
Real-time electricity and heating data per building, water use, and a daily waste-diversion rate (the share of campus waste that is recycled or composted rather than landfilled) are all published on one public dashboard.
Why it is public
Publishing the numbers, including the buildings performing worse than their peers, is meant to create the same accountability a public utility bill would — a building's facilities staff and its occupants can both see whether a fix actually worked.
In and around Porter Falls
Porter Falls sits on the Porter River, and the university's sustainability commitments are mostly about water and heat: the Millrace restoration, rain gardens, and fourteen buildings surviving a Wesconsin winter as efficiently as possible.
The practical details
Updated: Hourly for energy; daily for waste diversion. Covers: All 14 campus buildings. Public: Yes, no login required. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Office of Sustainability (Founders Union, Room 015). Call (715) 555–0240 or email sustainability@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
