How the fund works
A small student fee, approved by campus referendum, funds a pool of grants awarded each semester to student-proposed sustainability projects — a bike-repair stand, a reusable-container program, a solar-panel demonstration.
Who decides, and how
A committee with a student majority reviews proposals against feasibility, expected impact and whether a project can realistically finish on campus timelines; funded projects report back the following semester.
In and around Porter Falls
Porter Falls sits on the Porter River, and the university's sustainability commitments are mostly about water and heat: the Millrace restoration, rain gardens, and fourteen buildings surviving a Wesconsin winter as efficiently as possible.
The practical details
Typical grant: $500–$5,000. Funded by: A small per-semester student fee, opted into by referendum. Who decides: A student-majority committee. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Office of Sustainability (Founders Union, Room 015). Call (715) 555–0240 or email sustainability@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
