Current status: all clear
Campus is open and operating normally. No Porter Alert is active, and none has been issued since the scheduled system test on September 16. Classes meet as scheduled through Wednesday, October 14. Thursday and Friday, October 15–16, are fall break, when classes do not meet and offices stay open. The most recent update to this page was posted at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, October 9, by Porter Campus Safety.
During an emergency, this page shows only the active event and its instructions, and everything below is hidden. An event ends only when an “All clear” message is sent. Silence or a social-media post does not end it.

Elevator and accessibility outages
- Founders Hall, east elevator (No. 2): out of service through Friday, October 23 for a planned controller replacement. The west elevator serves all floors. The step-free route from the east wing runs through the second-floor connector.
- Applied Arts Building, freight lift: out of service. A replacement part is due October 14. The passenger elevator is working, and studio deliveries go through the loading dock by appointment.
- Health Sciences Center, elevator B: back in service since October 7.
- Commerce Hall, west entrance: the new ramp and powered doors finished this summer are working normally.
If you get stuck, call Campus Safety at (715) 555–0191 at any hour. If an outage cuts off the only step-free route to your class, Facilities treats it as same-day urgent. You can subscribe to alerts for specific buildings on elevator outage alerts and check step-free routes on the accessible campus map.
Construction detours
- Second solar array, next to the Forge Recreation Center: the south lot’s rows K–M are closed, and the gravel trail spur to the Riverfront Trail is fenced. Walk around it on the paved path.
- Founders Drive steam line survey: overnight single-lane flagging from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., October 19–30.
- Halvorsen Library east lawn: geotechnical drilling October 19–23, with a fenced work area of about 40 by 60 feet.
Full project details are on construction updates.
Weather outlook
The rooftop campus weather station and the regional forecast call for a dry, cool Millrace Week: daytime highs in the mid-50s to low 60s, overnight lows near 35, and the season’s first frost likely Tuesday night. Saturday, October 17 looks partly cloudy with a high of 54 and a 20 percent chance of rain at kickoff. The Forge Bowl is played rain or shine. Fireworks are postponed to Sunday at 7:30 p.m. only if winds exceed 25 mph, and that decision is posted here by 5 p.m. Saturday.
Winter closing and delayed-start decisions are not made on this page. They are announced by email, on the homepage banner and through local media, as described on weather closings.
How alerts work
Porter Alert sends threats to life or safety to every phone number and email address on file, as well as classroom screens and the outdoor sirens. Lesser disruptions, such as a water main break or a building closure, go out by email and appear on this page. Your Porter email is enrolled automatically. To add a mobile number or a family contact, follow the steps on emergency notifications. What to do for each alert word is explained on emergency information. The next full-system test is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10, 2027, at 11 a.m.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This status board, its outages, detours, forecast and alert system are invented. In a real emergency, call 911 and follow the instructions of your actual campus or local authorities.
