Gustav Petrov

Background

Gustav Petrov is on the faculty of the Department of Environmental Science and holds a master’s degree from the University of Toronto, along with professional licensure and industry certifications. Before Porter, Gustav was a GIS analyst for a regional planning commission.

Gustav brings that practice into the classroom, teaching from real cases and current standards in geomorphology and restoration ecology.

Teaching

Gustav regularly teaches courses in Environmental Science, Geology, Geography. Specific sections and syllabi are listed in the class schedule each term.

Class time is built around cases and real deliverables. Students work to professional standards, present to a critique or a client-style panel, and revise. Gustav keeps the connection to current practice explicit.

Advising and office hours

Gustav advises students in the Environmental Science programs and holds weekly office hours during the fall and spring terms, posted on the office door and in the course pages. Prospective students are welcome to email to arrange a visit or a call.

Advising conversations usually cover course sequencing, whether to add a minor or a concentration, and how classroom work connects to internships, research, or graduate study. Students who are undecided are welcome; part of the job is helping them narrow things down.

Gustav stays active in practice alongside teaching, through consulting, standards work, and applied projects in geomorphology and restoration ecology. Representative items:
