Home / Campus food pantry

Using the pantry

Any enrolled student can visit with a Porter Card. There is no application, no income check, and no explanation required. Students use it between paychecks, at the end of the month, and whenever the budget is tight — it is normal, and it is what the pantry is for. Visit as often as you need to within the posted limits per visit. Hours and location are posted on the pantry page in the campus engagement platform; a discreet entrance is available.

What is available

Shelf-stable staples (rice, pasta, beans, canned vegetables and protein, oats, peanut butter), some fresh produce and refrigerated items depending on deliveries, hygiene and personal-care products, and culturally responsive options. A small “grab and go” shelf near several buildings stocks snacks and quick meals for students who cannot get to the main pantry between classes.

If food insecurity is ongoing

If you are regularly skipping meals or choosing between food and other essentials, talk to the Dean of Students office or a financial-wellness coach. They can help with an emergency grant, an application for SNAP (many students qualify and do not realize it — apply at access.wisconsin.gov), and a budget. Not eating enough affects your health and your grades; it is an academic issue, not just a personal one. See eating well on a student budget for practical strategies.

Off-campus and national resources

findhelp.org lists local food pantries, meal programs, and assistance by ZIP code. Call or text 211 (or visit 211.org) for a live referral to community food and financial help. The USDA summer and community meal finder covers students with children.

Give or volunteer

The pantry runs on donations and student volunteers. Drop off non-perishables at collection points around campus, contribute through the Foundation, or sign up to help stock and staff it through the Campus Food Recovery organization, which also redirects unserved dining food to the pantry.
