How a floor works

Residents share a major or interest, a faculty-in-residence who holds regular office hours in the building, and programming built around that theme — a sustainability floor composts and gardens together, an arts floor gets a shared studio space.

The nine communities

Each floor is tied to a residence hall, so your housing application and your LLC application are the same decision.

  for incoming students planning to major in studio art, graphic design, industrial design, or a related creative field.
• Business & Management · Heritage Hall
  for incoming students planning to major in business administration, entrepreneurship, marketing, or a related program.
• Engineering & Technology · Riverside Hall
  for incoming students planning to major in any engineering or engineering-technology program.
• Exploratory Studies · Riverside Hall
  for incoming students who have not yet declared a major.
• First-Generation · Heritage Hall
  for first-generation college students of any intended major.
• Health Sciences · Riverside Hall
  for incoming students planning to major in nursing, dietetics, health information management, or a pre-health track.
• Honors · Millrace Hall
  for students admitted to the University Honors Program.
• Outdoor Recreation · Overlook Hall
  for students of any major who want built-in access to outdoor activity.
• Sustainability · Cooperative Hall
  for students of any major with a strong interest in environmental and sustainability work.

Choosing one

Incoming students opt in on the housing application; a community can be smaller than a standard floor if demand is light in a given year, but is never combined with an unrelated theme just to fill beds.

In and around Porter Falls

Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.

The practical details

Communities: Engineering, health sciences, arts, sustainability, first-generation. Where: One floor per community, mostly in the traditional halls. Extras: A faculty-in-residence and community-specific programming. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
