Before arrival
Families learn about orientation, housing, billing, aid, health forms, technology and the questions students should own themselves.
During the year
Family newsletters, open houses, performances, athletics and student-success guidance keep supporters connected without compromising privacy.
Stay involved
Families can attend Porter events, celebrate milestones and join the fictional university’s community of supporters.
Support without taking over
The programs help families understand orientation, billing, aid, housing and health requirements, and they are equally clear about which tasks a student should own — emailing an instructor, visiting an adviser, resolving a roommate issue. Doing those for a student tends to backfire.
Staying connected
A monthly newsletter, open houses, performances, athletics and family weekend during Millrace Week keep supporters in the loop. Because educational records belong to the student, staff can talk about processes and resources with families but not about a specific student’s grades or account without that student’s authorisation.
In and around Porter Falls
Most families reach campus from the west on US 12 or by regional coach into the Depot District, and the Welcome Center at the Depot — the restored 1911 rail station, two blocks from Founders Hall — is where visits start. Counselors travel to college and transfer fairs across Porter County, the Valley and the Cities each fall, and the office keeps Saturday hours during Millrace Week and through the month of April.
The practical details
Family newsletter: Monthly during the academic year. Family weekend: Held during Millrace Week in October. Privacy: Student records belong to the student. These specifics can shift from term to term, so confirm anything time-sensitive — a deadline, an appointment, an eligibility rule — before you count on it.
If you have a question
This is handled by Office of Admissions (Welcome Center at the Depot). Call (715) 555-0143 or email admissions@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or use MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If another office turns out to own the question, they will pass it along rather than send you back to the beginning.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
