Why seven years
A seven-year cycle, staggered across programs so only a handful review in any given year, is long enough to see real outcome trends and short enough that a struggling program does not go a decade without a structured look. Specialized-accreditation fields often layer their own review calendar on top.
What a review actually examines
Reviewers — a mix of faculty from other Porter departments and, for most programs, an external reviewer from a peer institution — look at curriculum currency, learning-outcome evidence, faculty and lab resources, and direct input from current students and employers who hire graduates.
What happens with the result
Every review ends in a public action plan with a named owner and a follow-up date, published alongside the accreditation and outcomes information on assessment & accreditation, not filed away until the next cycle.
