After-hours building access

Getting into a lab, studio, or facility outside the hours the doors are unlocked.

Home / After-hours building access

Getting it

Your instructor or PI submits an access request naming you, the space, and the date range. Card access is loaded to your Porter Card, usually within a couple of business days. It expires at the end of the term or project unless renewed.

Working alone safely

Some spaces — machine shops, wet labs, high-voltage areas — prohibit solo after-hours work regardless of access. Where solo work is allowed, tell someone your plan, keep your phone on you, and know where the nearest emergency phone and exit are. Campus Safety will do a welfare check if you ask.

In and around Porter Falls

Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.

The practical details

Standard hours: Academic buildings unlock on a published schedule; most lock evenings and weekends. Extended access: Granted by card to students with a documented need — a studio course, a research role, a senior project — and approved by the sponsoring department. Rules: Access is for you only; don't prop doors or let others in, and expect Campus Safety to check IDs. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
