Six reasons students choose Porter

  1. You make things from the first semester. Engineering students are in the Founders Hall high bay in week one, nursing students in the simulation hospital in year one, and every major ends with an applied capstone or co-op.
  2. Employers know us. 140 employers came to this fall’s career fair, and 212 capstone projects last year had a real client.
  3. Your professor teaches your class. Not a video, and usually not a teaching assistant. The provost has taught Statics every fall for years.
  4. The price is the price. No application fee, no essay, flat resident tuition for two years running, and costs published down to the lab fee.
  5. First-generation students finish. About 28 percent of each entering class is first-gen, and they graduate within two points of everyone else, with a center built for them.
  6. It is a small town with a river through it. Porter Falls has a downtown you can walk to, a trail along the water, and traditions like First Forge and Millrace Week.

Life in Porter Falls

Porter Falls is a town of about 17,000 on the Porter River. Campus is a ten-minute walk from the Depot District, where Main Street has coffee, cheap dinners and the Depot Plaza farmers market from May through October. The Riverfront Trail runs past Millwright Stadium, and the Porter Loop shuttle comes every 12 minutes. Lake City is 40 minutes east for the regional airport; the Cities are 75 minutes west by coach.

About 96 percent of first-year students live on campus, in halls from historic Heritage to the Depot Apartments; see residence halls. There are more than 300 student organizations, twelve Ironclad varsity teams, and a Forge Bowl against Chippewa Valley State that draws more than 4,000 fans every October. More about the town is on Porter Falls.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. This viewbook, its programs, prices, statistics and tours are invented; there is no campus to visit and no application to submit.
