Not the same as a service animal
An emotional support animal provides comfort by its presence but is not trained to perform a task, so it has no general campus access — it lives in the room and goes outside for the obvious reasons, nothing more. It can be a species other than a dog. Because it is a housing accommodation, it is reviewed by Accessibility Services, not simply declared.
What the review asks for
Documentation from a provider who has an ongoing treatment relationship, stating that the student has a disability and that the animal is part of the treatment plan. Accessibility Services weighs that against the practicalities — the animal's size for the room, the effect on roommates, the student's ability to care for it. An approved ESA agreement is renewed each year the student stays in the halls.
In and around Porter Falls
Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.
The practical details
Where: Approved ESAs are a housing accommodation only — the residence hall room, not classrooms, dining or the library. Approval: Through Accessibility Services, with documentation from a treating provider. Timing: Request at least 60 days before move-in; approvals do not carry between academic years automatically. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
