Applying

How do I apply to UW–Porter Falls?

Use the online application. It has no fee and no essay, takes about twenty minutes, and most applicants have a decision in about two weeks. Wesconsin residents and out-of-state students use the same process.

What are the application deadlines?

Fall: priority February 1, final August 1. Spring: priority November 1, final January 2. Summer: priority April 1, final May 15. For fall 2027 that means February 1, 2027 and August 1, 2027; Nursing and Apparel & Textile Design have earlier program deadlines (see admissions).

Is there an essay or a fee?

Neither. There is an optional “Anything else?” box (150 words, not an essay) for context you want a reader to have. See first-year admission requirements.

What do I need to send?

Self-report your courses and grades on the application; an unofficial transcript is enough for a decision. Your official final high school transcript, showing your graduation date, is due by July 15, 2027 for fall entry.

When will I hear back?

Most applicants hear in about two weeks. Files with a GPA below 2.5 or missing course units go to a second reader and then to the review committee, which meets every Tuesday from October through June (how Porter reviews applications).

I was homeschooled. Can I apply?

Yes. Homeschool applicants follow the same deadlines and send outside evidence of their coursework; a test score is one of four options for that evidence, not a requirement. Details are on homeschool applicants.

I went to Porter before and stopped out. Do I reapply?

Yes, through readmission if you missed a fall or spring term without an approved leave. It is free and takes about ten minutes; for spring 2027 apply by January 4, 2027. Jun Park, the re-entry and transfer counselor, is at (715) 555–0152.

Requirements and review

Which high school courses do I need?

17 academic units: English 4, math 3 (through algebra II), science 3 (at least two lab sciences), social studies 3 and academic electives 4. Engineering, engineering technology and computing want four years of math through precalculus plus chemistry and physics. See first-year admission requirements.

Is there a minimum GPA?

No. The middle 50 percent of admitted first-year students carried a 3.1–3.7 unweighted GPA. For fall 2026, Porter received 6,140 applications, admitted 4,920 (80 percent) and enrolled 2,110 students from 27 states.

What if I am missing a required course?

Missing one unit is not an automatic denial — applicants short one unit (usually a third lab science or algebra II) are typically admitted with a plan to make it up in the first year. Two or more missing units almost always means a phone call from your counselor before a decision.

What does a deferral mean?

The review committee wants to see more before deciding. A deferral asks for your first-semester senior grades, due January 29, 2027; other outcomes are admission, admission with a first-term plan (a 13–15 credit cap and an early-alert adviser), or denial with a counselor call.

Do some programs have extra requirements?

Yes. Nursing has its own secondary admission (getting into Nursing), and the B.F.A. programs and Apparel & Textile Design require a portfolio review (portfolio and audition admission). No program requires a test score.

Who reads my application?

The admissions counselor assigned to your region reads every file by hand. Find yours on meet your admissions counselor; counselors answer calls and email within one business day.

Test scores

Do I need the ACT or SAT?

No. Porter has been test-optional for admission and automatic merit scholarships since fall 2021 and made the policy permanent in 2024. In fall 2026, 37 percent of applicants sent a score; 81 percent of submitters and 79 percent of non-submitters were admitted (test-optional admission).

Should I send my score?

Send it if it is at or above the middle of the admitted range (ACT 20–26, SAT 1030–1240) or stronger than your grades suggest. Leave it off if it sits well below the range and your grades are solid; a blank is never read as a negative.

Does Porter superscore?

Yes — Porter uses your highest section scores across test dates. Self-report scores on the application; an official report is needed only if you enroll and want the score used for placement.

Does a score do anything after I am admitted?

An ACT math score of 24+ or SAT math of 580+ waives the math placement assessment and places you in the calculus-ready sequence. Everyone else takes the online assessment in the placement testing guide.

Can I take the ACT on campus?

Yes. The Testing Center in Halvorsen Library hosts national ACT dates on December 12, 2026 and February 6, April 10 and June 12, 2027. Register through the testing agency, not through Porter.

Visiting campus

Can I tour campus?

Weekday visits run year-round and take about two hours: a 30-minute admissions overview and a 75-minute student-led walk. Every visit starts at the Welcome Center in the 1911 Depot, with parking in Lot D; Saturday visits run twice a month in October and April (campus tour options).

What are Ironclad Preview Days?

Day-long open houses with every college open, a student-led tour and free lunch at The Forge. 2026–27 dates: October 24 and November 14, 2026; January 18, February 15, March 6 (with a transfer track) and April 16 (juniors), 2027. Register on the visit page or at (715) 555–0144 — see Ironclad Preview Days.

Is there help paying for the trip?

The Preview Day Travel Grant covers students who live 60 or more miles away and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, expect Pell eligibility, or are first-generation. It pays up to $120 in mileage for 60–149 miles, or up to $200 plus one night of lodging for 150 miles or more.

Can I visit without coming to Porter Falls?

Yes. The virtual campus tour covers about twenty stops, and your regional counselor may be visiting your school — check the counselor travel schedule.

How do school groups visit?

Groups of ten or more students from one school book a group visit at least three weeks ahead rather than registering for a Preview Day. Request one through campus tour options.

After you are admitted

How do I confirm that I am coming?

Pay the $100 enrollment deposit in MyPorter under “Confirm my enrollment.” It is credited to your first-semester bill. For fall 2027 it is due May 1, 2027 (spring 2027: December 15, 2026); extensions to May 15 are granted routinely if you ask before May 1.

Can the deposit be waived?

It is waived automatically if your FAFSA shows Pell eligibility, if you are a veteran or on active duty, or if you are an independent student who was in foster care. Anyone else can ask by email — a sentence is enough. For fall 2026, 640 of 2,110 entering students had it waived.

Can I get the deposit back?

Yes, in full on a written request from your Porter email through June 1, 2027 for fall entry (December 31, 2026 for spring). After that it is non-refundable except for military orders, a serious medical situation or a death in the family.

Can I defer my admission?

Yes, for one semester or one year, by request before August 1, 2027. Your deposit carries forward; see gap year planning if you are weighing it.

Is housing guaranteed?

Incoming first-year students who apply for housing by May 1, 2027 are guaranteed a space. The Housing Gateway opens within two business days of your deposit; the housing contract carries its own $200 deposit. See the housing FAQ.

When are orientation and the first day of classes?

Orientation registration opens March 1, 2027 for depositors, and sessions run June 14 through July 27, 2027 (new student orientation). First-year move-in is August 28–29, 2027 and classes begin September 1, 2027; the full list is on the new student checklist.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. These admissions answers, deadlines, admit rates and deposit rules describe a fictional university; nothing here will get anyone admitted anywhere, and no application or deposit is accepted.
