Founders Commons is the residential dining building, next to the first-year residence halls. Its main space is The Forge, the all-you-care-to-eat dining hall, with stations for grill, deli, a rotating global menu, a dedicated allergen-friendly pantry, salad and soup, pizza and pasta, a guaranteed vegan and vegetarian station, and a bakery. The building also holds the University Catering production kitchen and two private dining rooms that student organizations and departments can reserve.
Eating here
One meal swipe is one entry to The Forge; you eat as much as you want. Service runs continuously from breakfast through dinner on weekdays and brunch-plus-dinner on weekends during the academic year, with reduced hours over breaks. Guest swipes on a meal plan let you bring someone in. A registered dietitian on staff will build a plan for an allergy or medical diet.
Hours and access
The Forge is open to anyone with a meal plan or Campus Cash, and to the public at a posted door rate. Late food, coffee, and retail options are at Ironworks Food Hall in Founders Union, not here.
Accessibility
The entrance from the residence-hall side is step-free with automatic doors. Serving stations are at an accessible height, staff will plate and carry a tray on request, and every station posts full allergen and ingredient information. A sensory-friendly seating area is at the quiet end of the hall.
History
Founders Commons opened in 1968 with the first wave of residence halls and was gutted and rebuilt inside in 2017, when the food-court layout gave way to the current station model and the pantry station was added.
