Guest & visitation policy

Who you can have over in the residence halls, when, and the rules that keep it fair to roommates.

Home / Guest & visitation policy

The roommate's veto

Your roommate has an equal say in overnight guests — their agreement is required each time, and ‘we discussed it in September’ doesn't cover every weekend after. The roommate agreement is where you set the baseline; specific nights still need a yes.

Why the limits

Residence halls are homes for the people assigned to them, not open lodging. The night caps and sign-in rules exist so a roommate isn't displaced, so staff know who's in the building in an emergency, and so a ‘guest’ doesn't quietly move in. Hosts are responsible for a guest's conduct.

In and around Porter Falls

Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.

The practical details

Daytime guests: Generally welcome; sign in overnight or non-resident guests at the front desk. Overnight guests: Allowed a limited number of nights per month, with your roommate's advance agreement and desk registration; guests must be hosted at all times. Not allowed: Guests who aren't signed in, staying beyond the limit, or being left alone in the building; sub-letting your room. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
