Ironclad Fieldhouse

The indoor home of Ironclad basketball, volleyball and wrestling — and the site of the largest campus events.

Home / Buildings / Ironclad Fieldhouse

What is here

The Fieldhouse holds a 3,000-seat main arena for basketball and volleyball, a wrestling room, an auxiliary gym, team locker rooms, athletic training and strength-and-conditioning spaces, and the athletics department offices. Its floor is also the venue for the involvement fair, career conferences, large exams, and the two-sitting spring commencement.

Attending a game

Current students enter regular-season Ironclad home events free with a Porter Card, through the north student entrance. Public tickets — single-game and season — and accessible-seating information are listed by event on the athletics site. Doors open an hour before tip-off or first serve.

The student section behind the west basket is standing-room and loud; it is the reason visiting teams ask about the Fieldhouse.

Recreation use

When teams are not practicing or competing, the auxiliary gym and the main floor are open for intramurals and drop-in play; the schedule is posted in the PorterRec app. The building is not the main recreation facility — that is the Forge Recreation Center — but it absorbs the overflow.

Accessibility

The north and south entrances are step-free. Accessible and companion seating is available on the concourse level of the arena with a sightline over standing spectators; request it in advance for high-demand events so a specific section can be held. Assistive listening receivers are at the north entrance.

The name

"Ironclad" is the athletic identity, taken from the region's iron-founding history; the teams were the Millwrights until the 1970s, which is why homecoming is still Millrace Week. The Fieldhouse opened in 1978 and was re-roofed and re-floored in 2021.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every building, room, hour and detail on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real campus.
