Parking citations & appeals

What to do about a ticket you think is wrong, the deadline, and how escalating fines work.

Home / Parking citations & appeals

Filing an appeal

Submit online with your reason and any evidence — a photo of an unclear sign, proof you had a valid permit, a broken meter report. Common successful grounds: a first-offense misunderstanding, a malfunctioning pay station, temporary signage that wasn't visible. "I was only a minute" and "the lot was full" generally aren't.

If you don't appeal or lose

Pay promptly — fines escalate on a schedule and an unpaid balance becomes a hold that blocks registration and transcripts. Several unpaid citations can also get a car booted or towed at the owner's expense. Payment plans are available for a large balance.

In and around Porter Falls

Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.

The practical details

Appeal window: A set number of days from the citation date, through the parking portal. Review: A first-level staff review; a denied appeal can go to a student-and-staff committee. Unpaid tickets: Add late fees, then a registration or transcript hold; repeated offenses risk a tow or booting. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.

If you have a question

The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.

Fictional information

UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
