What the law provides
A dog individually trained to do work or perform a task for a person with a disability goes where its handler goes. Staff may ask only the two permitted questions and may not ask about the disability, demand papers, or require the animal to prove itself. A service animal in training has the same access under Wesconsin law when accompanied by its trainer or handler.
The handler's responsibilities
The dog must be housebroken and under control — on a leash or harness unless that interferes with the task, in which case voice control. A dog that is out of control and not corrected, or that is not housebroken, can be asked to leave; the person may stay and continue without it. Allergies and fear of dogs are not grounds to deny access, though Housing will try to keep an allergic roommate on a different floor.
In and around Porter Falls
Day-to-day life at Porter runs between Founders Union, the residence halls on the south quad and North Campus across the Riverfront Trail. The Porter Loop shuttle and a compact footprint mean most students can get anywhere on campus in under fifteen minutes on foot.
The practical details
Access: Anywhere the public and students are allowed, including classrooms, dining and residence halls. Questions allowed: Only whether the dog is a service animal, and what task it is trained to perform. Not required: Documentation, certification, a vest, or a demonstration of the task. Anything time-sensitive — an accommodation, a booking, a deadline — is worth confirming directly before you rely on it, because the specifics here can change from term to term.
If you have a question
The office behind this is Dean of Students Office (Founders Union, Room 200). Call (715) 555–0182 or email deanofstudents@uwporterfalls.edu during the fall and spring terms, or sign in to MyPorter to send a message or book a time. If it turns out another office owns the question, they will route it rather than send you back to the start.
Fictional information
UW–Porter Falls is a work of parody. Every office, person, building, phone number and statistic on this page is invented; nothing here describes a real institution or a service you can actually contact.
