Your Porter account
One account signs you in to email, the learning management system, MyPorter, the library, campus Wi-Fi, and lab computers. Activate it with the code in your admission letter and set up multi-factor authentication — it is required and it stops the large majority of account takeovers. Your Porter email becomes the official channel for everything, so check it daily.
Get help
The Technology Help Desk is on Level 1 of Halvorsen Library and is reachable by walk-in, chat, phone at (715) 555–0146, and email at help@uwporterfalls.edu. It handles account lockouts, Wi-Fi and device setup, software installs, learning-platform problems, and classroom technology. If a platform outage keeps you from submitting work, screenshot the error with a timestamp, email the work to your instructor before the deadline as proof, and open a ticket — instructors are understanding about a documented failure.
What you get as a student
University-licensed productivity, security, and creative software; large cloud storage with version history (use it as your automatic backup — see backing up your coursework); a licensed password manager; the issued laptop and its warranty and loaner program; equipment checkout for cameras, audio kits, and hotspots; general and specialty computer labs; a printing allocation; and remote access to lab software and library databases.
Security and your responsibility
The university will never ask for your password by email or text. Be suspicious of urgency, links that do not go where they say, and “job offers” that send you a check or ask for bank details. Report suspicious messages with the phishing-report button. Keep your devices locked and updated. If you think you were phished, change your password from a device you trust, sign out all sessions, and call the Help Desk immediately. Learn more free from the CISA Secure Our World campaign and the Have I Been Pwned breach checker.
Building your own skills
Students often get free access to a professional online-learning library (LinkedIn Learning or similar) through the university — ask the Help Desk. For self-paced technical practice, MDN Web Docs, freeCodeCamp, and the open resources guide are genuinely free.

See the full staff & office directory for any phone number or email. Because this is a fictional parody site, addresses and phone numbers are illustrative and do not reach a real university.
